Have we whet your appetite to see the GBT in person? It’s an incredible place and is perfect for visitors of all ages.

Located on Rte 28/92 in Green Bank (on the left if you’re traveling North) the GBT is nestled in the Allegheny Mountains on the edge of the Monongahela National Forest. Tours are available year round, the Science Center offers interactive displays, and the Starlight Café offers a variety of snacks and beverages with a great view of the GBT. GPS coordinates are:
38d-25'-48.2"N
79d-49'-03.93"W

Be sure to bring a disposable camera, or buy one at the gift shop, because no digital cameras or cell phone cameras are allowed because they create too much radio interference, which makes it difficult for astronomers to detect faint radio signals. Before you leave, be sure to stop in the Galaxy Gift Shop to pick up some souvenirs. We recommend a copy of “But it was Fun,” the history of the first 40 years of radio astronomy at Green Bank.
